It’s Labor Day and HOT!

Posted on August 31st, 2002 in General by whazzmaster

Phew, I just didn’t think it got this hot on a hill in San Mateo. I’m dying here. And as I look at the new weather widget on the home page, it says that the temperature is 99° F! What?! I’m going to go sit in the sink for awhile with the water turned on cold.

In other news, I absolutely hate the New Orleans Saints. They took me into overtime in NFL2K3… NO ONE takes me into overtime in NFL2K*. Final score 23-20 Pack, but they scored in some pretty ridiculous ways: a 45 yard interception run back for a touchdown, and a sweep left for about 70 yards. That kinda stuff don’t happen when Moneypenny plays. So I intercepted one of my own and ran it in for a TD, and then I tossed a few All Go bombs to my boys Glenn and Ferguson. In OT I made it mine with a 30-odd yard FEELGOOD goal to win. Take that you punk, Joe Horn.

Let’s see, my parents IM’d today to say that they bought a new digital camera for their trip out to visit. I’d say it’s the bomb.

Catcha.

[UPDATE at 8:02pm]

I just finished watching Dogma, and hey, Kevin Smith is just as much of a retard as Seanbaby wrote an article about saying he was. Also, according to my college-level reading skills, its 8:00pm and still over 90° outside, goddamnit.

What am I gonna do with 40 subscriptions to Vibe?

Posted on August 30th, 2002 in General by whazzmaster

As a matter of fact, I do have a 3 year subscription to Vibe. I’ve found that it’s an OK magazine, except for the fact that a lot of the interviews suck and I’m not sure that I trust the album reviews. The Letters to the Editor are the cream of the crop, though. Here is a reprint of one:

Don’t get me wrong–I’m not trying to hate on Southern rappers. It’s just that ever since Master P made it big, the media and record execs have been swinging on the south. It’s true that some of today’s hottest artists are there: Ludacris, Trick Daddy, and Jermaine Dupri, to name a few. But they’re not the only artists out there. I’d bet that if New England were exposed to the industry as much as the South is now, we’d be topping the charts, too.

Way to expound on the South there Jonathon Castillo of Providence, Rhode Island!

So, mainly I use the magazine to find out what clothes, cars, shoes, and jewelry is in style these days. Plus, as an added incentive, if you look in the back of the magazine where the classified ads are, there are a TON of pictures like this:

I got taken to the ballgame

So we did end up going out to the A’s game last night. The game started at 7:05pm. We left the house at about 6:15pm, planning to take the BART over to the stadium. In what was quite possibly the definition of the word debacle, we drove to the station (25 minutes), took the train to downtown SF (20 minutes), got off at Embarcadero to catch a transfer to the Oakland Coliseum stop, and realized that we had forgotten the tickets in Erin’s car back at the Colma station. They were awesome tickets, so we all hopped on a train to Colma (20+ minutes back). Erin got the tickets and we got on the train back to downtown to transfer (30+ minutes due to a problem at one of the stops). We transfered and took the train the rest of the way (30-40 minutes). When we finally hit our seats it was midway through the 5th inning. A normal person would say “Cool, about half the game left.” I said, “Shit, only two innings of beer service left.” So I bought them two at a time. Plus pizza. Plus peanuts. Plus garlic fries. All in all a good night, though it became a great night when, as we were walking to the train, some crazy marketeers with bags over their shoulders gave me some Febreeze in a plastic pouch. 100% awesome.

Are you ready for some foosball?

Posted on August 30th, 2002 in General by whazzmaster

I have baseball tickets for a game today? I would really like to see the A’s extend their winning streak (I believe what others have said: “The A’s are kinda like the Brewers of the West Coast”), but if the players really think that extra 100 gazillion dollars is that important, I don’t think I will be returning to baseball next year. Will I be going? If not, I will be playing NFL 2K3 on my Gamecube and loving every Wavebird Wireless second of it.

Myself, Erin, Erin’s sister Beth, and Beth’s boyfriend Brian went to the city last night to eat dinner at Foreign Cinema and watch the movie Amelie. The Onion doesn’t seem to think that much of the movie, but I found it pretty good, and I’d like to buy the DVD. The restaurant was awesome, and we ended up all ordering the same thing: onglet. That is some good goddamn steak, that onglet. I highly recommend that those in the Bay Area check out the place, but holy hell take a cab. We took the BART and it was like walking through a nightmare down on Mission Street, though we were only approached by one drunken, crazy hobo.

Why on earth was there a poster of an ocean behind there?

Posted on August 27th, 2002 in General by whazzmaster

Heh, I found an old, old picture from the UW CS Printer Lab when you could use a cheap little webcam to take your picture and save it to your user account.

I believe this was just after I totally went bald. Another interesting note: I still have that orange shirt, I wore it earlier this week. Note my facial expression of disgust and/or depression. I think this was around the time of my disastrous run of CS520 and CS 638.

Another addition

We have a new addition to the whazzmaster.com family: the Pic of the Moment. I will be uploading all of my great pictures into the database so that anyone who shows up can see pics from the olden days up until now. Since I’m indexing the pics with keywords, I will make a search form so that you can search for pics containing only people or places you want to see. It should turn out rather cool.

A First

Posted on August 26th, 2002 in General by whazzmaster

This is the first update from my work computer. Woo-hoo! So, I finally have it working, which is cool. If you ever can’t get access to a server that’s hosted on a PPPoE DSL line, and you are attempting to access the server from a corporate workstation on a T1+ line, the problem is most likely your MTU value in the registry (for windows) or in the ifconfig settings (for Linux). Change that mofo down to 1492 or thereabouts and you should be good to go.

The beginning of a whole new blog…

Posted on August 26th, 2002 in Site News by whazzmaster

Well, everything seems to be working now. The site is operational, though not accessible. I’m working on that, though. I spoke with Luke Pacholski and he is going to get me set up with space on his webserver.

So I went to dyndns.org and signed up for an account, but I have to wait for damn Paypal to process my deposit to my account before I donate to get the Customer DNS solution working.

Hopefully by about the beginning of September I’ll be all set on the new server, and then people can actually see all my hard work. I’m still thinking about some things I want to add to the site:

  • Workout Tracker
  • Wrestling Reviews
  • Pic of the Day
  • Wedding RSVP Tracker

The Pic of the Day is definitely going to happen as soon as I get a scanner to load all my pics into the computer, the RSVP TRacker is dependent on if I can convince Erin to let me. The Workout Tracker I tried once before and it didn’t come out very pretty, but I know a good deal more about PHP programming now so it should come out a little better now.

Happy Birthday, Aaron Moneypenny. You’re finally 21, better learn to enjoy the High Life.

A shopping spree

Posted on August 25th, 2002 in General by whazzmaster

Below are listed my purchases today and what my impressions are of all of them:

I’ll get some more in here once I’ve had the chance to digest them properly. For now I’ll say that defense in 2K3 is damn near impossible.
