Spacebee’s On The Side Of The Mountain (lens flare~!)

Spacebee’s birthday was pretty great yesterday. We went out to dinner with her friends, and then wwhazz and bellygirl got her Michigan State basketball tickets. I was the lucky Plus One, so I got to see Wisconsin crush M State. Afterwards we stood shoulder-to-shoulder in the Nitty Gritty so that she could get her free cup of beer, and then drank the night away at the Main Depot. We’re checking out the new Brazilian steakhouse up by State Street tonight (Samba). If it’s especially good or bad I’ll let you great people know. If it’s ‘meh’ I’ll just keep it to myself.

Arizona: Long Story Short

Posted on February 23rd, 2008 in Tha Weekend by whazzmaster

I’m laid up with the flu right now (and have been for the last three days), so I’ll make this a Long Story Short™. Don’t worry, eventually I’ll follow up with a Short Story Long version (including pictures.)

Let’s use the patented Whazzmaster.com List Format:

  1. Played a ton of Rock Band with alandovos and his wife last Friday. Fun, fun, fun shit. I love that game.
  2. Kicked it with spacebee’s friend and entourage for a few days in Scottsdale.
  3. The weather in Phoenix was never over 65° while we were there, and rained two of the days. Inconceivable.
  4. Hiking was cool in Sedona, and we also did a Pink Jeep tour. Fun onna bun.
  5. I woke up Thursday morning with chills, fever, cough, sore throat, etc. As of today (Saturday) none of my symptoms have abated.
  6. Got some good pictures in Sedona of red rocks n’ shit.
  7. Hit up DeluxBurger in Fenix per Judd’s instructions. Good shit, but every single person that worked there was incompetent.
  8. Spacebee bought me a cowboy hat. My ridiculous transformation is complete, for sheezy.

First Annual Crooked Lake Ice Fishing Derby

Posted on February 11th, 2008 in Antics, Tha Weekend, Wisconsin by whazzmaster

Fun weekend up near Oxford, Wisconsin. Springer invited us up for an experimental run at an ice fishing weekend on Crooked Lake (full picture gallery here) where his family has a summer place (double-wide with all the trimmings). Lawman, wwhazz, and I hit it up for ice fishing, drankin, and gambling. Upon arrival we got right to baiting and fishing. Thirty minutes in lawman had already hauled in a bass (though it would prove to be the first and last fish caught that day.)

First (And Only) Catch of the Day
Catch of the Day

The saddest thing you’ve ever seen is a bootless whazzmaster in sneakers navigating the 4 inches of slush on top of the foot of ice. I held out against the cold for about 2-3 hours, and then as the temperatures fell in the afternoon I had to retire to the trailer for heat and food. It probably went from high 20s to 20 below from 3:00p to 8:00p. On a mid-afternoon jaunt into town for bloody marys we stopped at the local TruValue hardware store where I procured heavy duty boots and new wool socks, and wwhazz brokered a deal for 3/8″ slingshot ammo. I had the horsradishest-bloody mary of all time, which perked me up since I was still hungover from a Friday Night Intuit Essen Haus Extravadanza.

We returned from town ready to cook dinner and watch the Badgers drop one to Purdue at home. As our 15 pounds of purchased perch burbled away in the turkey deep-fryer manned by two stout fellows, wwhazz, lawman, springer, and I took turns shooting beer cans with the wristrocket and BB gun.

Throughout the evening I backed the house in a rousing game of blackjack. I am nothing if not efficient in my dealing; HOLLLARIT Joe’s Casino, got any openings? As we drifted on to sleep well past midnight the wind howled and temperatures dipped even further south. Morning saw us bright-eyed, bushy tailed, and eating a Magmuffin at Maggie May’s Cafe. It was goddamned delicious, and I recommend it without hesitation or reserve.

Thanks for the weekend Springer; I will take you up on a summer getaway back to Crooked Lake for more fishing, booze, campfires, firearms, and bloody marys. And Foxtails.

Sprung Training

Attention, Brewers Fans, you can download a Calendar application-importable file with all the scheduled Brewers games from this page. It also has instructions on how to add it to Microsoft Outlook. Thank you for being vaguely aware that people have computers, MLB. Now, please fix the fucking asinine rules about viewing games online.

This week is Semi-Annual Engineering Interview week at the University of Wisconsin, so I’ll be doing my usual spiel to attract Computer Science and ECE/CS double majors to come work for Intuit. As always, I look forward to my homeboys from California flying into town for food and booze and fun. This weekend is the Ice Fishing Extravadanza, and next week spacebee and I are flying down the Arizona for a (hopefully) warm vacation. Considering this morning was a weird mix of freezing rain and sleet, it will be a welcome change of pace.

On Saturday lawman and I split a bottle of scotch and hooted and holllllared at the TV. The Brock Lesnar fight was a bit disappointing, but dude had it coming. The whole fight involved him putting himself in extremely risky situations. I figured Mir came close to arm-barring him half a dozen times before he got a hold of the ankle. Also, you have to admit that Lesnar tapping to the heel-hook anklelock with Kurt Angle in the audience was hilariously appropriate. As a matter of fact, I can’t even remember how the main event ended. Man, that was a lot of scotch.

All I have to say about the Super Bowl is that the 4th quarter made up for the fact that the previous 3 quarters were some of the most boring football ever. Also, I hate all sports teams (and their fans) from Boston/New England. Haha, jerks.
